KARACHI: The Iqra University on Sunday organized a seminar titled ‘Energy Saving and Efficient Use of Resources’ at its North Campus in Karachi.
While addressing the event, CEO of 3 Ray Solution, Imran Imtiaz Butt said that as per estimates, the earth receives 1.5 hours of continuous sunlight, which is enough to resolve the Global Energy Crisis. He said that around 173,000 terawatts of solar energy reach the Earth’s surface every second, which can easily generate 10,000 times more electricity than what is currently being produced globally.
16% of Sahara Desert Can Fulfil the Whole World’s Energy Demand

Butt said that the total energy demand of the world could be met only by covering 16 percent of the total area of the Sahara Desert with solar panels. He added that experts around the globe were increasingly concerned over the energy crisis and improper use of energy resources.
He said that urgent and better measures were needed to solve this critical problem, adding that natural resources such as solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy could be used for this purpose.

Butt said that timely and efficient use of biomass and hydropower energy could also be effective in tackling the energy crisis. He added that there was a dire need to raise awareness among young students regarding this problem, which would help in economic development in the modern era. But, with the help of examples, also highlighted the smart use of electric appliances and the prevention of energy loss.
Pakistan’s Immense Potential for Renewable Energy Production
Pakistan has tremendous potential in renewable energy resources. As per the World Bank, utilizing just 0.071 percent of its area for solar photovoltaic (solar PV) power generation would be enough to meet the country’s current electricity demand. The wind is also an abundant resource.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is also highly suitable for the generation of wind energy; particularly, in the coastal belts of Sindh and Baluchistan. The Government of Pakistan has set up a wind power energy corridor along the southern coastal regions of the two provinces.
