ISLAMABAD: International cricket authorities have voiced serious concerns over player safety during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), following the tournament’s suspension due to escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.

Among the first to respond were the South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) and Cricket Australia (CA), both issuing official statements addressing the unfolding situation.

“The health and safety of players is non-negotiable. We are in direct communication with all South African players participating in the IPL and are keeping them updated with security assessments. Support is being provided wherever needed,” stated Andrew Breetzke, chief executive of SACA.

Cricket Australia, meanwhile, released a statement on Friday expressing continued vigilance:

“We are closely monitoring developments in both Pakistan and India, maintaining regular communication with the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI, and local authorities, as well as staying in contact with our players and support staff on the ground.”

IPL’s suspension

The IPL 2025 was suspended following Thursday’s interrupted match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala, which was halted midway through the first innings due to security concerns.

In response to the volatile geopolitical environment, the BCCI announced an immediate one-week pause to the tournament.

Echoing international concern, Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed it had contacted both the BCCI and PCB to assess the situation and ensure the safety of its players.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday that the remaining fixtures of PSL 10—including the play-offs and final—would be moved to the UAE due to the ongoing regional crisis.

The PCB assured fans that updates on new dates and venues would be provided shortly.

As PSL 10 heads into its concluding stages, four league matches and four play-off games remain, promising a thrilling finish to the competition.
