Investigative Journalist Arshad Aziz Malik Awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for Exceptional Contributions

PESHAWAR: President Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiaz’, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards, on senior journalist Arshad Aziz Malik from Peshawar for his outstanding contributions to journalism. This accolade highlights Malik’s significant impact and steadfast dedication to investigative reporting.

Arshad Aziz Malik, currently the President of the Peshawar Press Club, is widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s foremost journalists. His career began in 1991 after completing his Master’s degree in political science and journalism, with a role at Daily Mashriq. By 1994, his exceptional talent led him to Daily Aaj, where he became a key figure in the editorial team over the next two decades.

In 2014, Malik brought his expertise to the national stage by joining the daily Jang, a leading Pakistani newspaper. His reputation as a formidable investigative journalist was cemented through his extensive reporting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he uncovered corruption, abuse of authority, and discrepancies in various development projects.

Malik’s investigative work, comprising over 1,000 reports, has exposed numerous instances of fraud and misconduct, holding powerful figures and institutions accountable.

Malik’s investigative journalism is renowned for its meticulous research and commitment to truth, earning him widespread respect and recognition in the media industry. His reports have not only informed the public but have also played a crucial role in promoting transparency and integrity in governance. Malik has exemplified the role of journalism as a catalyst for social change, advocating for justice and democratic principles.

Beyond his reporting, Malik has been a prominent figure in the journalistic community. He served as president of the Khyber Union of Journalists for two years, implementing reforms to support and protect journalists.

Under his leadership, he linked journalists’ jobs to the wage board, secured fair compensation and job security, and facilitated access to free healthcare for over 300 journalists in Peshawar. He also founded Khyber, a magazine addressing journalists’ issues and concerns, amplifying their collective voice.

Throughout his four-decade career, Malik has also contributed as a trainer, conducting training programs and lectures on various topics. His efforts to mentor young journalists have helped shape the future of journalism in Pakistan.

Malik’s exceptional service has earned him numerous awards both nationally and internationally, underscoring his dedication, integrity, and the profound impact he has made on the media landscape.
