ISLAMABAD: Two-day International workshop on ‘Ethical Research in Clinical Trials’, organized by COMSTECH and UEARS, is scheduled from February 7-9 to address the challenges of research integrity in clinical trials in low-middle-income countries and proposes the best suitable guidelines to improve the quality of research in this field.
The event seeks to educate and train participants on research integrity while fostering a network of professionals for ongoing learning and collaboration. COMSTECH officials anticipate that the workshop will facilitate the development of solutions for clinical trial challenges faced by low and middle-income countries.
The workshop invites registration from students, scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals, government officials, and policymakers involved in multi-centre clinical trials research worldwide, either for physical or virtual attendance.
As science intersects with broader societal issues, researchers and institutions are increasingly accountable to society. Thus, periodic reassessment of research values and practices is crucial for maintaining integrity.
Clinical trials play a pivotal role in medical advancements, with the willingness of volunteers being paramount. However, many less-developed countries lack adequate medical infrastructure and experience in conducting trials, leading to variability in healthcare systems and trial procedures.
To address these issues, UEARS enlisted COMSTECH’s support to provide training and development in research integrity for OIC researchers. The workshop aims to draft recommendations on research integrity in clinical trials and certify participants in this area.
The workshop agenda includes sessions on critical appraisal of trials, ethical considerations in multicenter trials, trial design, statistical analysis, regulation, oversight, publication, and presentation of recommendations for feedback and finalization.
Distinguished scholars, including Prof. Dr. Khalid Khan from the University of Granada, Prof. Dr. Yacoub Khalaf from London College, UK, and Dr. Mohamed Fawzy from UEARS, are expected to speak at the event.
