ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary delegations from different countries continue to arrive in Pakistan, to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference scheduled to begin in Islamabad on Tuesday, Radio Pakistan reported.

So far, delegations from Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Palestine, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Morocco, Maldives, Barbados, Kenya, Serbia, Philippines, and Rwanda have reached Islamabad.

The conference is taking place under the theme of ‘Peace, Security and Development’.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will address the conference.

The conference being organised by Senate of Pakistan, will be chaired by Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The event exemplifies Pakistan’s active parliamentary engagement on the global stage and will further promote the country’s positive image as a supporter of peace and mutual cooperation.

The conference has been designed as a platform for parliamentary leaders to exchange views on peace, security, development, and legislative cooperation, including ways in which elected bodies can address shared global challenges. Organisers note that discussions are expected to cover economic resilience, digital governance, conflict mediation, humanitarian aid coordination, climate adaptation, and parliamentary transparency.

In recent years, Pakistan has intensified its parliamentary diplomacy, aiming to broaden political engagement beyond the executive branch and build coalitions on issues such as Gaza, Kashmir, climate vulnerability, and developing-country debt reform.

Officials have also highlighted that the upcoming sessions will provide opportunities for bilateral meetings on the sidelines, including with delegations from Saudi Arabia and Palestine.
