ISLAMABAD: People around the globe commemorating International Mother Language Day (Today) on Wednesday, a celebration aimed at promoting the richness of languages and cultures that shape our world.

The central theme of this year’s celebration is “Multilingual education is a pillar of intergenerational learning,” which emphasizes the critical role that education in a variety of languages plays in promoting the transfer of information across generations.

International Mother Language Day traces its roots back to November 1999, when it was officially established by the General Conference of UNESCO.

Originating from the visionary initiative of Bangladesh, this day gained significance on the global stage with the UN General Assembly endorsing its declaration in 2002.

As we honor the linguistic diversity that enriches our societies, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting multilingualism as a foundation of inclusive education and cultural understanding. —APP
