ISLAMABAD: Renowned Pakistani cardiologist Dr. Muhammad Ajmal has been recognised by the International Medical Society as one of the world’s top five doctors.
The prestigious award will be presented to him at the 175th anniversary celebration of the Society, scheduled to be held on May 2, 2025, at the Hancher Auditorium in Los Angeles, UA.
Dr. Ajmal, who is from Jatoi in the Muzaffargarh district, has been praised for his exceptional contributions to the field of cardiology, especially for his groundbreaking work in rural healthcare.
His efforts have made it possible for complex cardiology procedures—once limited to major urban hospitals—to reach underprivileged and remote communities.
Through the “Great River Health Initiative,” he introduced advanced cardiac care, including angioplasty and stent placement, to local populations that previously lacked access to such life-saving treatments.
Currently, he is based in West Burlington, US. He completed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson and his internal medicine residency, including a year as chief resident, at Carle Foundation Hospital.
His medical degree is from King Edward Medical University. Dr. Ajmal has authored multiple publications on topics related to cardiology, including interventions and coronary studies. He has been recognised for his outstanding performance in interventional cardiology and professionalism, and he received several awards during his fellowship at the University of Arizona.
