ISLAMABAD: The nation comes together to observe the International Day against Breast Cancer on Thursday, an event dedicated to raising awareness about the pervasive disease and advocating for improved access to early diagnosis and effective treatment.

In his special message, President Dr. Arif Alvi highlighted the alarming mortality rates due to breast cancer in Pakistan, emphasizing the pressing need for action.

Breast cancer in Pakistan

Breast cancer is a significant health concern globally, affecting millions of women every year. Pakistan, unfortunately, bears the burden of one of the highest mortality rates due to breast cancer in Asia. This stark statistic underscores the urgency of addressing this issue and taking steps to improve the situation.

One of the fundamental challenges in Pakistan’s battle against breast cancer is the limited availability of screening and treatment facilities. Timely detection is a critical factor in enhancing the chances of survival and successful treatment of breast cancer. Thus, the need for accessible screening programs and early intervention cannot be overstated.

President Arif Alvi’s message draws attention to the importance of proactive measures. By raising awareness about breast cancer and educating women on the significance of self-examinations, the early detection could be encouraged.

Regular self-examinations and routine check-ups play a pivotal role in spotting the disease at its nascent stages when treatment options are more effective and less invasive.
