KARACHI: The Consul General of Indonesia Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat, while stressing further bolstering trade and investment cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia, said on Friday that both countries are a big market.

During his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the envoy said that Pak-Indonesia bilateral trade was far less than its true potential. To enhance the trade volume, both countries should deeply understand the patterns and structure of challenges hindering bilateral trade.

He said that the Indonesian government always desired to support businessmen, and the Indonesian Consulate and its Embassy in Islamabad remain extensively engaged in exploring and identifying opportunities as well as fully facilitating businessmen of both nations.

Indonesia’s Rice Imports From Pakistan

He added that Indonesia imported 500,000 metric tons of rice from Pakistan, which was secured within a very short time.

The diplomat advised the business community of Karachi to participate in trade fairs, meet Indonesian businessmen, and send business delegations so that the Indonesian business community could be acquainted with trade opportunities in Pakistan.

He also highlighted the need to have cultural ties between the two nations for the creation of a conducive environment and informed that the Indonesia Pakistan Youth Forum was opened to provide a vibrant platform for the younger generation who must lead the way for creating opportunities.

Earlier, President KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh lauded the Indonesian Consulate in Karachi for playing the role of a bridge connecting both countries and fostering a spirit of friendship that goes beyond geographical boundaries.

He said that there was a huge potential for enhancing bilateral trade and investment between the two countries as they have vibrant markets, good geographical locations, and a skilled labour force.

He added that by leveraging the strengths, both nations can create a synergistic partnership that not only boosts economic prosperity but also paves the way for technological exchange and innovation.

The KCCI president also invited the business community of Indonesia to participate in the Karachi Chamber’s upcoming “My Karachi Exhibition,” scheduled to be organized in mid-next year.
