Indonesian Embassy Organizes Exhibition to Deepen Understanding of Pakistan-Indonesia Relations

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Indonesia in Pakistan on Wednesday inaugurated a week-long exhibition aimed at enhancing awareness about the multi-dimensional relationship between Indonesia and Pakistan. In collaboration with the National Library of Pakistan, National Archives of Indonesia, and National Archives of Pakistan, the exhibition was held at the National Library of Pakistan.

The exhibition presents a compelling collection of photographs, videos, and letters, offering a portrayal of interactions between the founding fathers of Indonesia and Pakistan, President Soekarno, and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It provides a unique insight into President Soekarno’s visits to Pakistan and his meetings with Pakistani dignitaries, emphasizing the shared history that binds the two nations.

Imam Gunarto, Head of the National Archives of Indonesia, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and respect shown by the people of Pakistan towards Indonesia’s leaders, particularly President Soekarno. He highlighted the potential of such events in strengthening cultural relations, particularly in the fields of archives and history.

Yusran Hadromi, Indonesian Charge d’ Affaires, extended gratitude to the National Library of Pakistan and National Archives of Pakistan for their valuable contributions to organizing the exhibition. Emphasizing the historic and cultural commonalities shared by the two countries, he stated, “President Soekarno is highly respected by the people and Government of Pakistan for his sincere efforts to bring the two countries closer to each other.”

Soekarno’s Role in Strengthening Indonesia-Pakistan Relations

On the occasion, Senator Mushahid Hussain, acknowledging the initiative, praised the role of President Soekarno as a statesman. He highlighted that Soekarno’s revolutionary spirit resonates in the shared values of democracy, independence, and cultural diversity, continuing to unite Indonesia and Pakistan.

Director General of the National Library of Pakistan, Asif Iqbal Khan, emphasized the exhibition’s role as a bridge connecting the two nations through the rich tapestry of history. Dr. Mazhar Saeed, Director of the National Archives of Pakistan, underscored the importance of preserving shared heritage, ensuring that the legacies of leaders like Dr. Soekarno and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah continue to inspire generations.

The event also featured captivating performances by Indonesian students, showcasing brilliant angklung music and dance performances, including Pasambahan, Randai, and Indang dances—a vibrant representation of West Sumatra province.
