JAKARTA: Foreign Minister of Indonesia Retno Marsudi on Thursday said that Jakarta will continue working with Saudi Arabia and other Organization of Islamic Cooperation nations to end Israel’s war in Gaza.
Indonesia is part of a ministerial committee assigned by the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic Summit last month to push for an end to the ongoing Israeli bombardment in Gaza where more than 18,600 Palestinians have been killed.
Members of the committee, led by Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan, have met senior officials of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to put pressure on the Western states to end Israel deadly bombardment of Gaza.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi expressing her views said that a number of OIC states as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, Qatar, and Nigeria, Indonesia continues to be on the forefront in supporting to end the war in Gaza.
She added that it is not an easy challenge but the Muslim countries will not give up and continue to try their efforts to end the sufferings of the people of Palestine.
Indonesia a staunch supporter of Palestine cause
Indonesia, for decades, has been a staunch supporter of Palestine cause. Since the latest escalation of Israeli violence, Indonesian officials have been trying to gather global support for Palestinians on various multilateral platforms.
Marsudi has also vowed to triple Indonesia’s contributions to the UN relief agency for Palestine and pledged to strengthen international solidarity with the Palestinians.
The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
According to the UN some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes.
