SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: A recent report by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service has revealed that Indian occupation forces martyred 120 innocent Kashmiris, including four women and as many boys, during the year 2023 in Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The report highlights various atrocities committed by Indian forces, shedding light on the prevailing state terrorism in the region.
According to the report, 41 of the martyrs were killed in fake encounters and custody, further pointing out that the Indian police also killed one Hindu in custody in Jourian police station in Jammu. Moreover, Indian forces molested, abused, or disgraced seven women while destroying 13 residential houses and structures in the territory.
The report outlines that at least 107 individuals were injured due to the use of brute force, and 3,610 people, including Hurriyat leaders, activists, students, and women, were arrested during house raids and cordon and search operations. The detained individuals include APHC leaders, journalists, and human rights defenders, many held under black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The authorities, it notes, denied people the right to offer Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on 11 occasions and restricted religious functions such as Shab-e-Baraat, Shabe Qadr, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) gatherings in the occupied territory.
Furthermore, the report mentions the continued detention of resistance leaders, including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, and others in Delhi’s Tihar Jail under fake cases.
Since August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special status of IIOJK, the report states that Indian troops have martyred 852 Kashmiris, and a total of 96,285 Kashmiris have fallen victim to Indian bullets and extrajudicial killings in the last 35 years.
