NEW DELHI: Indian health minister has urged people to wear wearing masks in public places as the country reported 199 new coronavirus cases.

Indianian health authorities have also urged the masses to get booster shots to keep themselves safe from the onslaught of the lethal virus.

India limited its mask-wearing regulations earlier this year, following a decline in Covid-infections.

Indian neighbouring China’s Covid cases

A spike in Covid 19 cases in neighboring China has raised India’s warning level. India has recently reported four cases of BF 7, an Omicron subvariant related to an increase in cases in China.

The cases — three in the state of Gujarat and one in Odisha — were reported in July, September and November, according to health officials.

Government statistics show that there are only about 3,400 active coronavirus infections in India but news of the outbreak in China has worried the Indian government.

Numerous health specialists have stated that India, which had two fatal Covid waves in 2020 and 2021, did not need to be alarmed.

Indian health officials on Covid-19

Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the country’s Covid situation on Wednesday and urged people to use masks, keep social distancing, often wash their hands and get doses.

Only 27% of the population has received the booster dose, which India refers to as a “precaution dose,” despite the fact that the government has already provided more than 2.2 billion doses of the Covid vaccines to the health authorities.

Government health advisor VK Paul urged people to use masks and obtain booster injections on Wednesday. Indians have largely ceased donning masks in public areas after more than two years of observing the tight Covid guidelines.
