NEW DELHI: The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently conducted raids at two locations in connection with a case filed against the news portal NewsClick. Delhi Police had registered the case against NewsClick, accusing them of violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
The CBI’s team of officials conducted searches at the residence and office of Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of the news portal. The case includes charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other allegations related to conspiracy in promoting the narrative that Kashmir is a disputed territory. It is alleged that the portal received foreign funds in violation of the FCRA.
The Delhi Police’s investigation into the portal’s finances has alleged fraudulent fund infusion by Neville Roy Singham, an active member of the propaganda department of the Communist Party of China. However, NewsClick has vehemently denied these allegations.
