ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a roundtable conference on Saturday raised concerns over India’s systematic trajectory from occupation and annexation, leading to a settler colonization of Kashmir. The conference, titled “Kashmir Dispute: Occupation, Annexation, and Colonization; A Way Forward,” was part of the “Youm-e-Istehsal” event organized by the Institute of Dialogue Development and Diplomatic Studies to protest against India’s illegal actions on August 5, 2019.
The conference, jointly presided over by Professor Dr. Tughral Yamin and Dr. Waleed Rashool, brought together prominent journalists, editors, reporters, and anchors from Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Sufferings of Kashmiri People
During the event, Professor Dr. Yamin emphasized the role of academia, research, and media in representing the pain and suffering of the Kashmiri people under Indian colonization. He highlighted India’s expansionist designs, which pose a threat to regional peace and security. He also pointed out that India’s policy is driven by a Hindutva mindset, affecting its relations with neighboring states, particularly with Pakistan.
Dr. Ashraf emphasized the responsibility of every individual Kashmiri to contribute to the cause of Kashmir and highlighted the crucial role of media in the digital age to raise awareness about the plight of Kashmiris under Indian stubbornness.
Dr. Waleed Rasool urged editors and media house owners to keep the Kashmir issue alive in electronic and print media. He stressed the importance of unity among Kashmiri people to send a clear message to India that their struggle for the right to self-determination continues despite all challenges.
The editors and media house owners attending the conference pledged their commitment to promote the Kashmir issue in line with the wishes and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
