GUWAHATI, India: India Women began their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign with a 59-run win over Sri Lanka under the DLS method on Thursday, led by Deepti Sharma’s all-round performance with both bat and ball.

Deepti Sharma starred with an all-round performance, scoring 53 runs and taking 3 crucial wickets.

Her efforts with both bat and ball anchored India’s commanding win, earning her the player of the match.

Solid Batting Foundation Sets the Tone

India posted a commanding 269/8 in 47 overs, led by Deepti Sharma (53 off 53) and Amanjot Kaur (57 off 56) who stitched together vital middle-order partnerships.

Openers Pratika Rawal (37) and Harleen Deol (48) also played steady knocks, helping the team recover from early jolts.

Despite a few hiccups, including a golden duck for Jemimah Rodrigues and a mini-collapse in the middle overs, a late flourish by Sneh Rana (28 off 15)* ensured India set a formidable target.
