SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: Civil society members in a meeting in Srinagar have expressed dismay at what they perceive as India’s lack of seriousness in resolving the Kashmir dispute, which has persisted for over seven decades.

They accused India of treating the territory as its colony and violating international laws and agreements by denying Kashmiris basic rights.

The members urged New Delhi to restore all democratic rights of the people in the region, emphasizing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime has disregarded the Indian Constitution by revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. They called on the international community to hold the Narendra Modi regime accountable for infringing on the rights of the people in the occupied territory.

The civil society members highlighted that the people of Kashmir have been disenfranchised, with their constitutional and democratic rights being snatched away. They lamented that the disenchantment in Jammu and Kashmir is at its highest level, leading to a halt in political and economic activities in the Kashmir Valley.
