ISLAMABAD: India continued their dominance at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings, maintaining their lead over Australia despite the abandonment of the fifth T20I in the ongoing series.
The match, scheduled to be held at The Gabba, was called off after lightning stopped play just 4.5 overs into India’s innings, followed by heavy rain that ensured the game could not resume.
At the time of the abandonment, India were on 52/0, with Shubman Gill contributing 29 runs off 16 balls, and Abhishek Sharma remaining unbeaten on 23 off 13 balls.
The Indian batsmen had raced to their fifty inside five overs, setting the stage for what could have been an exciting finish. However, weather conditions thwarted the possibility of a result.
In terms of the series, India had already secured a 2-1 series victory over Australia, having won the first and third T20Is after the second match was claimed by the Australians.
With India earning one rating point after their win in the third T20I, they now sit comfortably at the top of the rankings with 272 points, while Australia drops to 268 points, widening the gap to five points.

With India’s 13 series unbeaten streak in T20Is, their record remains formidable. Since their narrow 3-2 loss to the West Indies in 2023, India have not lost a series in the format, with the only drawn series being the 1-1 result against South Africa.
Remarkably, Australia has not defeated India in a bilateral T20I series on Australian soil since their lone win in a one-off match in 2008.
