ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office of Pakistan stated on Thursday that the responsibility lies with India to ensure comprehensive security for the Pakistan cricket team as they prepare to travel to their neighboring country for the upcoming 50-over ICC World Cup.
Responding to a question during her press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch declined to comment on the Indian government’s statements regarding the security of the Pakistan national team. However, she emphasized that it falls under India’s duty to furnish foolproof security for the team.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that she would not reply to the Indian government’s remarks on the security of the Pakistan national team but it is India’s responsibility’ to provide foolproof security to the team.
No Special Treatment for Pakistan Cricket Team
This response came after India’s Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, commented that the Pakistan team would not receive special treatment and that they would be provided with appropriate security cover as needed, just like any other team.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch highlighted the need for India to establish an environment that enables players to partake in the tournament without any apprehensions.
Pakistan, last week, allowed its national cricket team to travel to India for participation in the cricket World Cup 2023. But the country expected that the national team would be provided full security.
Responding to the Jaranwala incident, the FO spokesperson said that the prime minister instructed the law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to justice.
She said that a high-level investigation had been launched into the incident, and those involved in the Jaranwala incident will not be pardoned under any circumstances.
