ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said on Sunday that Pakistan had not requested a ceasefire, adding that it was India which sought the ceasefire after Pakistan launched the military operation ‘Bunyan-Um-Marsoos’ in retaliation for unprovoked aggression. He said that Pakistan positively responded to the ceasefire request, as it has always prioritised regional peace.

The DG ISPR, flanked by senior officers from the Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy, briefed the media on the operational details of military operation ‘Bunyan-Um-Marsoos’—Pakistan’s military response to recent Indian unprovoked attacks.

“On the night of May 6 and 7, after those dastardly and cowardly attacks were made, Indians requested and Pakistan gave a very clear response that we will communicate back only after we have given the response that this act deserves.

“So on May 10, after the response and retribution and on the request and intervention of international interlocutors, we responded to the already made request of the Indians,” he said.

Pakistan struck 26 Indian military sites

DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that on Saturday, Pakistan’s armed forces had targeted 26 Indian military installations in retaliatory strikes. These included facilities used to launch attacks on Pakistani civilians and to support terrorism inside Pakistan, he said.

“Pakistan’s armed response under Operation Bunyan-Um-Marsoos included a wide range of high-value military targets in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and mainland India,” he said.

“The targets included air force and aviation bases at Suratgarh, Sirsa, Adampur, Bhuj, Naliya, Bathinda, Barnala, Halwara, Avantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Mamoon, Ambala, Udhampur and Pathankot — all of which sustained major damage,” he added.

“Military command headquarters, which helped plan the operation killing of innocent citizens, including the 10th and 80th Brigades at KG Top and Nowshera, were destroyed,” DG ISPR said.

“Military logistics and support sites which helped sustain this unlawful operation against Pakistani civilians, like the field supply depot Uri and the radar station in Ponch, were also targeted.”

“Across the LoC, military elements including headquarters, logistic bases, artillery positions and posts that had caused civilian casualties in AJK through unprovoked artillery were relentlessly targeted and heavily damaged until they raised white flags and asked for restraint.”

The DG ISPR said that Pakistan sustained “an abnormal and immediate spike in India-sponsored terrorism” during the military’s operations on the eastern front.

“This vindicates that India is directly involved in fomenting terrorism in Pakistan, and its proxies were fully operationalised during this time to distract our attention,” the DG ISPR said.

Pakistan armed forces fulfilled promises

“Pakistan Armed Forces are resilient and simultaneously, with the conduct of Operation Bunyan-Um-Marsoos, we carried out effective counterterrorism operations in the Western region without pause,” he said.

“Operation Bunyan-Um-Marsoos has been a great example of coming together of all elements of national power, with overwhelming support of the Pakistani public to effectively counter the threat to our national sovereignty and integrity and the threat to our great motherland,” the DG ISPR said.

“No one should have any doubt that whenever our sovereignty would be threatened and territorial integrity violated, the response would be comprehensive, retributive and decisive.”

The military spokesperson recalled that the Armed Forces had promised three things to the nation: “we will give a befitting response to Indian aggression, this response will be at the time place and method of our own choosing, when we hit the Indians, the entire world will come to know, you will not need the Indian media to report to you”.

“That’s what we promised. We promised and delivered.”

DG ISPR has affirmed that Pakistan never targeted civilians because “our religion, culture and professionalism” don’t allow us to do so. “We will never target civilians.”

“Even from Indian statements, did you find that Pakistan attacked anything other than military targets? No.”

He added that the Barhmos facilities, which had fired missiles in Pakistan and killed innocent civilians, were also destroyed during Operation Bunyan-Um-Marsoos.

“Whenever our sovereignty is breached, the response will be retributive and decisive”, he resolved.

No Indian pilot in Pakistan’s custody

DG ISPR has clarified that Pakistan has no Indian pilot in custody, blaming it to “social media chatter”.

“This is all part of fake news and propaganda that has been generated from multiple sources,” he said.

“In a conflict between two rival nuclear powers … such a conflict is actually an absurdity and it is inconceivable and sheer stupidity,” DG ISPR says.

“In the case of India and Pakistan, such a conflict can lead to peril of more than 1.6 billion people,” he replied to a question. “In reality, there is no space for war between India and Pakistan, and if anyone wants to carve out this space for war, he is actually carving out the space for mutual annihilation.”

“This is why you saw how in this conflict Pakistan acted in a very mature manner and through conventional forces, we maintained escalation control, through conventional forces we gave them a two notch up response while also ensuring that the Pakistan forces employed on the counterterrorism operations … no pull is also exerted on them.”

Kashmir dispute central to Pakistan-India conflict: DG ISPR

“Kashmir remains central to the dispute between India and Pakistan, and peace between India and Pakistan will always elude till the time there is a resolution of the Kashmir dispute as per the United Nations resolutions and as per the will of the people of Kashmir. Till the time that is not done, there cannot be enduring peace between India and Pakistan,” the DG ISPR said.

“This military conflict has once again put Kashmir right as the flashpoint which needs to be resolved, which needs to be as per the will of the people of Kashmir,” the DG ISPR said.

The DG ISPR thanked the Prime Minister and his cabinet for the ‘destiny-changing decision’ which helped avenge the loss of lives of Pakistanis hit by “the terrorist Indian attack”.

He also mentioned the pivotal role played by the Pakistani media during the operation and compared it to “the war-mongering Indian media”, which he said was hell-bent on perpetuating jingoism.

DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry paid tribute to those who were martyred in Indian aggression and their families, while praying for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every officer, soldier, airman and soldier of the Armed Forces of Pakistan who made this success on the battlefield possible through their courage, professionalism and sacrifice,” the DG ISPR stated.

“The armed forces of Pakistan express their profound appreciation and gratitude to the brave Pakistani nation, whose moral strength, resolve and above all, wholehearted support and prayers remained unwaveringly with us during these testing times, which became a force multiplier for the Armed Forces of Pakistan,” he said.

The military spokesperson particularly thanked the youth of Pakistan — “who became the frontline soldiers as information and cyber warriors of the country” — and the media that stood as a “steel war” against the Indian media.

He also appreciated politicians for their support to the army during these times and lauded the premier for taking “destiny-changing decisions” during this testing time.

DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the Pakistan Army has delivered its promises made to the nation.

He said: “Today we shall apprise you of the conduct and conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, the dastardly attacks that began on the night of May 6 and 7, 2025, resulting in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women, children and the elderly.”

“Pakistan had vowed justice and retribution for the reprehensible Indian military aggression and brutal killing of our civilians.”

The DG ISPR said India used drones to violate Pakistani airspace and intimidate civilians by spreading fear.

“All through Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, dozens of Pakistani armed drones hovered over major Indian cities and sensitive political and government facilities, including their capital, New Delhi,” he stated.

“From occupied Kashmir all the way up to Gujrat, to manifest clearly our lethal long-range, unmanned capability to indicate the futility of the use of this domain in warfare,” he said.

The military’s spokesperson added that Pakistan’s armed forces also carried out “comprehensive and effective cyber-offensive to temporarily cripple and degrade critical infrastructure and services that were being used to by Indian armed forces to sustain their operations”.

“Military command headquarters, which helped plan the operation killing of innocent citizens, including the 10th and 80th Brigades at KG Top and Nowshera, were destroyed,” DG ISPR said in a press conference.

“Military logistics and support sites which helped sustain this unlawful operation against Pakistani civilians, like the field supply depot Uri and radar station in Ponch, were also targeted.”

“Across the LoC, military elements including headquarters, logistic bases, artillery positions and posts that had caused civilian casualties in AJK through unprovoked artillery were relentlessly targeted and heavily damaged until they raised white flags and asked for restraint.”

DG ISPR said Pakistan’s response was a “textbook demonstration” of integrated tri-services, enabled by real-time situational awareness, network-centric warfare capabilities and seamless multidomain operations.

“This synergy across air, land, sea and cyber domains allowed for precision engagements, overwhelming lethality and rapid tempo,” he said.

“Using precision-guided long-range Fatah missiles F1 and 2 of the Pakistan Army, precision munitions of PAF, highly capable long-range loitering killer munitions and precision long-range artillery.”

PAF response was based on ‘time and place of own choosing’

Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb, while describing Pakistan’s response to the Indian Air Force, said the PAF’s response was based “on the time and place of own choosing”, displaying “bold, aggressive and unwavering resolve of the brave military leadership”.

“I must appreciate the leadership … they were resolute and clear in giving instructions to all of us and that is perhaps the reason why we were so sure about what we had to do,” he said.

“With unprecedented reach, precision and lethality, while avoiding collateral, the PAF hit a maximum number of IAF airfields in a single operational package since 1971 because they crossed the international border,” the officer said.

“While reestablishing deterrence, Pakistan negated the setting of a new normal under the hegemonistic design of a supremacist regime through a swift and effective response.”

“The PAF’s response has strengthened Pakistan’s national security and our enduring commitment to stability and peace. But I have no doubt that the real cerebrum behind the aim and design was the Chief of Air Staff Zaheer Ahmad Babar,” he said.

“He asked us to do three things: re-establish deterrence, neutralise key threats, retain control of air,” Aurangzeb recalled.

“During the befitting response we generated in our first episode, we attired the IAF’s pride, the Rafales, resulting in this entire fleet coming to a standstill at ground position. They did not fly after that, at least not close to their western border.”

“This reduced their liberty of action and curtailed their options,” he pointed out.

“They initiated unmanned aircraft operations targeting Pakistan’s civilian population and infrastructure. All these spots are drones and UAVs coming into our territory, being picked up by radar even before entering. Anti-drone systems of PAF, Navy and Army rendered enemy US drone attacks ineffective through jamming and spoofing and rendering systems unserviceable.”

All drones were detected and rendered useless through indigenous jamming systems, Aurangzeb added.

Pakistan Navy defends sea frontiers

Vice Admiral Rab Nawaz has said the Pakistan Navy was able to defend the country’s sea frontiers from a “numerically superior enemy”.

“On any given day of the year, we maintain perpetual readiness. Our ships and submarines are stocked up, and for us, the transition from peace to war is not only swift, it is invisible,” he said.

“When this false flag thing happened in Indian-occupied Kashmir, we immediately mobilised and completed the operational deployment of Pakistan Navy fleet units and coastal command units in a matter of hours. Our subs, our ships and aircraft were in their respective areas, and we were ready to thwart any aggression from the sea.”

He highlighted that maritime domain awareness was knowing what was happening in the area of interest. “That is critical for naval operations. To generate any response, you need to be aware of what’s happening in your area of responsibility, and we were maintaining a 24/7 vision at sea.”

“There was a hype about INS Vikrant approaching Karachi. We were keeping a very close eye on the activities at sea we were monitoring it from day one.

“On the night of May 6 and 7, it was close to Bombay, and on May 9, it was essentially 400 nautical miles from the Pakistani coast, and it retreated close to Bombay,” Vice Admiral Nawaz said.

“If a carrier gets within 400 nautical miles, it simplifies our problem. The Navy maritime air arm was properly ready to generate a response at all times, and I was in contact with Deputy Chief of Air Staff Aurangzeb at all times. If there was any aggression from the sea, we were ready to respond effectively.”

“As a pro military officer, I don’t want to underestimate the enemy, but let’s put some things in perspective. The Vikrant sails with 8-12 MiG-29s — barely essential to carry out its own air defence.”

“So the enemy fully understood the cost they would have to pay for venturing from the sea, and so they didn’t,” he added.
