NEW DELHI: Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah have said that present-day India is doing what is opposite to ‘equality, justice, love, compassion and tolerance’ as taught by Gandhi.

On the occasion of Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary, which was celebrated on Monday, Omar Abdullah said that now people only remember Gandhi while travelling abroad or when foreign dignitaries visit India, Kashmir Media Service reported on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said that people are acting opposite to what Gandhi stood for.

Omar Abdullah Urges India to Follow Gandhi’s Message

Abdullah said that India should follow Gandhi’s message of equality and justice.

He added that Gandhiji taught us equality and justice for all. That is what we need right now.

In a post on social media platform X’, Mehbooba Mufti said that today, as we remember Gandhi ji, one is painfully aware of how far India has strayed from the ideals of love, tolerance, and compassion that he laid his life down for.

Mufti added that she would still like to believe that Gandhi’s sacrifice was not in vain and that sooner or later we will reclaim the India that he envisaged.
