NEW DELHI: India has declined to offer any “special treatment” to Pakistan in response to Pakistan’s security concerns for its cricket team during their visit to India for this year’s World Cup.
Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, stated that the Pakistan team would not receive special treatment and that they would be provided with appropriate security cover as needed, just like any other team.
“Cricket team of the Pakistani team holds the same significance for us as any other team. They will not be given special treatment. Instead, they will be provided with proper security cover whenever and wherever needed,” Arindam Bagchi said.
Last week, the Islamabad government granted permission for the national team to travel to India for participation in the ICC Cricket World Cup, scheduled from October to November this year.
In a press release, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Pakistan firmly believes in keeping sports separate from politics. Therefore, despite concerns over security, they have decided to send their cricket team to India for the upcoming tournament.
