COLOMBO: India asserted its dominance in grand fashion as pace bowler Mohammed Siraj orchestrated a resounding victory, claiming six crucial wickets for just 21 runs, leading India to a commanding 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. This victory marks India’s eighth Asia Cup title.

Siraj claimed four wickets in one over to help Sri Lanka out for 50, a total the Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan surpassed in just 6.1 overs for an impressive triumph. Shubman Gill scored 27 runs off 19 balls, and Ishan Kishan scored 23 runs off 18 balls.
In a remarkable display of bowling prowess, Siraj’s exceptional performance proved to be the catalyst for India’s resounding success. The Sri Lankan batting order faltered, crumbling to a mere 50 runs before succumbing to the relentless Indian attack. Siraj’s incredible spell included a stunning feat where he clinched four wickets in a single over, leaving the Sri Lankan team in shambles.
Sri Lanka Batting Collapsed Against India
Opting to bat first after winning the toss in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s innings faced immediate adversity as opener Kusal Perera fell victim to Jasprit Bumrah on just the third ball of the match, with a catch behind the wicket.
However, it was Mohammed Siraj who emerged as the tormentor-in-chief, amplifying Bumrah’s early breakthrough with a remarkable display of pace and precision. Siraj’s onslaught accounted for six Sri Lankan wickets, and his fourth over, in particular, proved to be exceptionally destructive, where he seized four wickets.
Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka’s decision to bat first ultimately led to the team’s downfall as they were bowled out in just 15.2 overs.
In response to Sri Lanka’s modest target, Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill put on a clinical batting display, swiftly achieving the required runs in just 6.1 overs. Shubman Gill contributed 27 runs off 19 balls, while Ishan Kishan added 23 runs off 18 balls to secure a commanding 10-wicket victory.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lauded the team’s performance, describing it as a “clinical show” that showcased India’s cricketing prowess.
