ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi has approved remission of 180 days for prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day, local media stated on Sunday.

According to local media, as per the announcement, complete remission has been granted to aged male prisoners who were awarded life imprisonment above sixty five and have undergone one third of their punishment.
The remission will be given to those prisoners, who are under eighteen and have undergone one third of their sentence.
Complete remission has also been given to those female prisoners having more than 60-year who have also spent one third of their jail term.
As per the media reports, special remission would not be given convicted in major crimes including gang rape, espionage, bank robbery, murder,anti-state activities and kidnapping.

Pakistan is celebrating 76th Independence Day today with renewed determination to work with the spirit of Pakistan Movement to make the nation a true Islamic welfare state.
Public and private departments will organize special activities and functions, including discussion programmes, seminars, photo exhibitions, poetry, and national songs competitions with the focus on recognizing the contribution of leaders of the Pakistan Movement and sacrifices of the country’s national heroes.

The aim of such events and activities is to educate the students and new generation about the historical struggle for the creation of Pakistan.
