DHAKA: A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day, a statement said on Wednesday. In a symbolic gesture of national pride, the students representing of different colleges and universities across Bangladesh, joined the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Syed Ahmed Maroof in hoisting the national flag to the tune of Pakistan’s national anthem.
This year’s ceremony held special significance with the participation of 50 Pakistani students who have been staying at the High Commission due to recent circumstances in Bangladesh. Their presence added a unique and meaningful dimension to the celebrations.
A key highlight of the event was the reading of messages from Pakistan’s leadership by the students. Mr. Abdul Moez, a student from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Dhaka, delivered the President of Pakistan’s message, while Ms. Mubashara Eiman and Ms. UmeWarqa from Sir Salimullah Medical College Dhaka read the messages from the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, respectively.
The messages from Pakistan’s leadership congratulated the nation on this auspicious occasion, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the founding fathers, and reaffirmed the commitment to building Pakistan in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. They also expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support for their just struggle.
In his concluding remarks, High Commissioner Maroof reiterated the leadership’s messages and emphasized the importance of following the vision of Pakistan’s founders. He expressed satisfaction with the safety and well-being of the Pakistani students in Bangladesh, commending their resilience and active participation in the Independence Day celebrations. High Commissioner Maroof also extended his gratitude to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for ensuring the safety of the students, noting that their presence at the ceremony made this year’s Independence Day particularly meaningful.
The students expressed their gratitude to the High Commission for its hospitality during challenging times and shared their pride in joining the High Commissioner in raising the flag and reading the messages from Pakistan’s leadership. The ceremony was attended by members of the Pakistani community in Bangladesh, local media representatives, and the staff of the High Commission.
