ISLAMABAD: Increase in power tariff is on the cards for Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) distribution companies as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has proposed a 24 paisa per unit raise in the power tariff for October under the mechjanism of monthly fuel cost adjustment.
The CPPA-G said in the petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), that the actual cost remained at Rs 9.4162 per unit against the reference fuel charges of Rs9.175 per unit during the month of October.
A total of 10,704.94 GWh of electricity worth Rs96.567 billion was generated during the said period, while 10,377.26 GWh of net electricity was supplied to the DISCOs across the country. Out of the total generation, as much as 29.37 percent of electricity was generated from hydel, 15.47 percent from coal, 1.46 percent from furnace oil, 12.11 percent from local gas, 17.22 percent RLNG, 20.61 percent from nuclear and 2.08 percent from wind.
The petition said that electricity was generated at a cost of Rs 33.70 per unit from furnace oil and Rs 24.2 per unit from Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), while it was imported from Iran at Rs 21.17 paisa per unit. The regulator; NEPRA will hold a public hearing on November 29 on the petition. The impact of the proposed hike will be passed on to all the categories of consumers except lifeline.
