ISLAMABAD:  In recent years, a series of extraordinary discoveries have shed light on the behaviour and movements of ancient dinosaurs. From the Jura Mountains in France to the deserts of Mongolia, and even in parts of the UK and Pakistan, scientists have uncovered dinosaur trackways that provide a window into prehistoric life.

Tracks in France

According to CNRS, in 2009, the world’s largest dinosaur tracks were discovered in the French village of Plagne, in the Jura Mountains. Since then, a series of excavations at the site has uncovered other tracks, sprawling over more than 150 meters.

Footprints in Mongolia

According to a BBC report published in 2016, one of the largest ever dinosaur footprints were found in the Gobi Desert. Measuring 106cm (42in) long and 77cm wide, it is believed to be of a titanosaurus. It was discovered in August in a geological layer formed 70 to 90 million years ago. Shinobu Ishigaki, professor of palaeontology at Okayama University, and his team made the discovery in collaboration with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

Rare footprints in Pakistan

According to a report published in Dawn in 2011, spectacular titanosaurian sauropods footprints were found at Baroch Nala, Malakhel, near Mianwali.

Trackway site in UK

The UK’s biggest ever dinosaur trackway site has been discovered in a quarry in Oxfordshire, according to BBC. About 200 huge footprints, which were made 166 million years ago, criss-cross the limestone floor.
