ISLAMABAD: Shifa International Hospital officials have rejected a social media claim that former prime minister Imran Khan was brought to the hospital overnight for medical check-ups, saying there has been no such admission or notification of his arrival.
The clarification came after a journalist and some other users posted on X that preparations had been completed at Shifa Hospital for Khan’s medical stay and claimed that he had already been brought to the hospital for check-ups.
Hospital sources said Khan had neither been brought to the hospital nor was there any information that he was scheduled to arrive.
The sources, however, confirmed that the hospital had made contingency preparations following recent reports about Khan’s possible transfer to Shifa.
They said the preparations were intended to ensure that, if a high-profile patient is brought to the hospital, appropriate security arrangements can be maintained while allowing the hospital to continue treating other patients.
The sources said such preparations should not be interpreted as confirmation that Khan had been admitted or that his arrival at the hospital had been scheduled.
Social Media Claim
Users’ posts claimed that a large basement facility had been specially prepared for Khan, including medical rooms, a media room and a waiting area equipped with technology, furniture and surveillance systems.
It also claimed that the hospital had introduced stricter security, access and parking procedures and restricted outside food for staff and attendants.
The hospital sources did not confirm these claims as arrangements specifically made for Khan’s admission.
Medical Transfer
The issue comes amid an ongoing dispute over Khan’s medical treatment and possible transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital.
The Supreme Court had previously directed authorities to facilitate his medical examination and treatment at Shifa, while authorities subsequently took him to PIMS for a medical examination instead.
