Imran Khan’s Wasim Akram Plus Quits Politics

LAHORE: Former Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar Friday became the latest leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to quit politics in the aftermath of the May 9 violence in the country.

In a press conference, the former CM said, “I stand with the armed forces of Pakistan,” saying that his politics was completely peaceful.  Buzdar urged all stakeholders to work for the betterment of the nation regardless of their political associations.The former Chief Minister denounced the violence that followed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9.

PTI workers burnt and smashed the country’s defense installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, after Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 — a day the country’s army declared as “Black Day”.

Several leaders of PTI and thousands of workers have been arrested in connection with the violent protest demonstrations, and the military has asserted that the people involved in attacks on defense installations will be tried under the Official Secrets Act and Pakistan Army Act.

Similarly, a close aide of Imran Khan and former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Umar, has also surrendered his post of party secretary-general, citing the current situation.

Several party leaders of PTI, including Shireen Mazari, Fawad Chaudhry, Malik Amin Aslam, Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Aftab Siddiqui, Mahmood Moulvi, and Fayyazul Hassan Chohan have publicly condemned the attacks on defense institutions and announced leaving PTI since the May 9 vandalism.
