ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has shown significant improvement in his eyesight, according to a medical report released following a board examination on February 15, 2026.
The report details the findings of a medical board that assessed Khan’s eye at Adiala Jail and later briefed party leaders at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), with his personal physicians also consulted by phone.
The medical board assessed Imran Khan during a visit to Adiala Jail and later briefed party leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai, at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) between 9:00 pm and 10:20 pm the same day, ARY News reported.
Imran Khan’s personal physicians, Dr Asim Yousuf and Dr Khurram Mirza, were also briefed by phone for over 25 minutes.
Both the political leaders and the doctors expressed satisfaction and confidence in the treatment plan.
The board was compiled by Professor Nadeem Qureshi, head of the retina department at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, and signed by Professor Muhammad Arif Khan, head of ophthalmology at PIMS Islamabad.
According to the report, Imran Khan’s unaided visual acuity in the right eye was 6/24 partial, while the left eye was 6/9. With corrective lenses, vision improved to 6/9 partial in the right eye and 6/6 in the left eye.
Examination revealed redness and dilated vessels in the right eye, along with four to five cotton-wool spots.
Doctors observed mild internal haze but noted that swelling had significantly reduced.
Thickness measurements in the affected retina fell from 550 to 350, signalling marked improvement.
Vision in the right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9 partial, described as encouraging by the medical team. The left eye remained healthy with normal vision.
The report recommends continued use of prescribed eye drops, including Nevanac and Systane Ultra for both eyes, and Cosopt specifically for the right eye.
Specialists also advised that after completion of anti-VEGF therapy, further tests such as Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) and Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) should be conducted. A second anti-VEGF injection may be administered if required.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar stated that Imran Khan’s right eye now has 70% vision with eyeglasses, while the left eye maintains healthy 6/6 vision.
“There is nothing to worry about,” he said, adding that the medical team had briefed opposition leaders and the PTI founder’s personal doctors on his condition.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, confirmed meeting the treating doctors.
Achakzai told reporters that prior to treatment, Imran Khan had difficulty seeing a clock on the wall, but after treatment, he could clearly see the clock hands.
Raja Nasir Abbas said he attended the briefing but declined to provide further medical details, noting he was not qualified to comment on clinical matters.
