ISLAMABAD: Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has said that cases cannot be avoided by evading the courts, dodging the law, and attacking national institutions. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest has nothing to do with politics, nor was it an act of political vendetta.

During an interview with BBC World, the minister said that peaceful protest was a democratic right of any worker and political party, but protesters did not come out after the arrest of Imran Khan as people cannot be fooled every time.

She said that in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan, legal procedures were completed, and the court announced the ruling on the completion of his trial.

She said that Imran Khan failed to present evidence in his defense. PTI chief was accused of abuse of power, but he could not answer questions about state gifts.

Cases Against Imran Khan

Aurangzeb said that apart from this, 4 more cases of theft of 190 million British pounds, the May 9 tragedy, cipher, and foreign funding cases are also underway against Imran Khan.

She said that the arrest of the PTI chairman had nothing to do with the polls; he was arrested on a court order.

Marriyum said that during his government, Imran Khan jailed all political rivals.  He misused his powers and used FIA and NAB to witch-hunt his political opponents, but the incumbent government did not indulge in such tactics.
