ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, announced on Tuesday that PTI Chairman Imran Khan would be tried in a military court for his alleged involvement in the planning and execution of the violent events that unfolded on May 9.

The attacks led to the loss of lives and damage to military installations across the country. The violence erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest, following which military installations came under attack, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and injuries to around 290 individuals.

Additionally, over 1,900 protesters were apprehended during clashes with law enforcement personnel. Imran Khan was taken into custody by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with the Al Qadir Trust case.

Sanaullah Accuses Imran Khan of Planning May 9 Riots

During an interview with a local news channel, Rana Sanaullah accused Imran Khan of personally orchestrating the attacks on military installations prior to his arrest. Sanaullah claimed that there is evidence to substantiate this allegation.

When questioned about Imran Khan’s trial, Sanaullah stated, “Absolutely, why shouldn’t it. The program that he made to target the military installations and then had it executed, in my understanding it absolutely is a case of military court.”

The government and the military responded strongly to the riots, vowing to take action against those responsible for the violence. As a result, an ongoing crackdown has been initiated against individuals involved in the May 9 attacks.
