ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan would not run for any of the 33 seats in the upcoming National Assembly by-elections set to take place next month, local media reported citing the party’s vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Khan has also directed the former PTI MNAs to submit their papers for the by-polls on the vacated seats. The former lawmakers have already begun their election campaign in their respective constituencies. Earlier, Qureshi said that Khan would be PTI’s candidate for all constituencies and ex-MNAs, who were earlier elected for those seats, would be the covering candidates.
The possible reason for Imran Khan not contesting the by-polls is the fears among the party leadership that he might be disqualified in some case in the coming days, most probably on the edge of the polling day.
ECP schedule for national assembly by-polls

In this regard, the commission said that the nomination papers would be submitted on February 6-8, while the scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done till February 13, with the final list of candidates to be released on February 21.
