ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced the formation of a seven-member committee tasked with holding talks with the government led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

This development comes in response to a growing number of PTI members parting ways with the party. The committee comprises senior party leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Parvez Khattak, Asad Qaisar, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Aon Abbas Buppi, Murad Saeed, and Hammad Azhar.

Imran Khan’s decision to establish the committee follows his appeal to political stakeholders for “immediate talks” as the PTI faces internal challenges. During a conversation with journalists, Khan expressed his belief that surprises were forthcoming and that the time for change had arrived.

Khan stated his intention to allocate election tickets to young people, expressing confidence in the PTI’s prospects for success. Khan also suggested conducting a referendum to gauge public support.

Imran Khan Presents Strategy in Case of Arrest

Imran Khan clarified that if he were arrested, PTI leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Parvez Khattak would oversee party affairs. He emphasized that he was not at odds with the army. Khan acknowledged that some individuals had left the party under duress, while others had revealed their true intentions.

He vehemently denied ever encouraging party activists to vandalize national buildings and questioned why he would do so now, particularly since he forbade such actions after surviving an assassination attempt in Wazirabad. Additionally, he mentioned convening a meeting of his legal team to address the release of detained PTI workers.

In response to Imran Khan’s call for negotiations, the government, represented by Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, rejected the possibility of talks with the PTI, stating that discussions could not be held with those who had attacked the state. Aurangzeb accused Khan of seeking a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) rather than appealing for negotiations.

Meanwhile, the PTI appointed Omar Ayub Khan as the new secretary general, replacing Asad Umar, who resigned from the post.
