ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday announced to suspend his party’s ongoing “Jail Bharo” drive.
The PTI chief said in a tweet, “We welcome the judgment of the Supreme Court. Protection of the Constitution was the duty of the Supreme Court, and the honourable judges have bravely discharged this duty by their judgment today. This is a seal of approval for the rule of law in
Pakistan. We are suspending our jail-full movement and campaigning in Khber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab is growing.”
The PTI chief’s announcement comes hours after Pakistan’s top court issued orders to conduct by-elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjb in 90 days.
The PTI has touted the Supreme Court’s verdict as a victory of democracy, which, it said, would pave the way for a democratic transition.
