LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has accused those involved in violence of repeating the history of East Pakistan.

In a statement on Friday, he lamented the arrest of PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur, saying that those behind his arrest were only “humiliating themselves and increasing the gap between the state and the nation”.

He also announced that he would begin the ticket review process from tomorrow.

Khan’s comments came just a day after he criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, saying that he was merely “the captain of the cowards”.

Speaking at an Iftar gathering, Khan accused Sharif of being a part of a team of cowards, which also included Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He went on to praise Gandapur’s defiant fortitude in the face of his legal troubles.

Khan has been a vocal critic of what he sees as a descent into fascism in Pakistan. He has railed against what he describes as a “circus of FIRs”, with over 145 FIRs filed against him personally.

He has also criticized the police for their treatment of Ali Amin Gandapur, who was allegedly abducted and tortured.

Khan has been particularly critical of the interim government, which he claims is indulging in a political vendetta against him and his party.

He has called for the administrator to take over from the interim setup and hold elections in the province. He also accused the interim government of violating fundamental human rights.

In light of these developments, it remains to be seen how the political situation in Pakistan will unfold in the coming weeks and months.
