In a statement, IMF representative for Pakistan, Esther Perez rejected all speculations and said, “there is absolutely no truth to this”. Ester Preez said that no discussion was held about the nuclear programme in any agreement between the IMF and Pakistan. Ester Preez maintained that Pakistan and IMF are holding talks over financial policy only.

“Our talks have exclusively focused on economic policies to solve Pakistan’s economic and balance of payment problems in line with the IMF mandate for promoting macroeconomic and financial stability,” Ester Preez said.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Office also categorically stated that the country’s nuclear programme is not on the agenda of discussions with any country or the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
