ISLAMABAD: The global lender International Monetary Fund (IMF) has asked Pakistan to set up a task force to enhance accountability and corruption control.

The fund’s team is currently visiting Pakistan to discuss the delivery of the next tranche of its $6 billion bailout package to the South Asian economy.

The ongoing program, which has previously faced many ups and downs, is expected to be revived soon, with the government reportedly willing to accept the global lender’s conditionalities.

One of the many conditions was to set up a task force on accountability and corruption control.

Task force to coordinate with federal finance, accountability departments

The planned force would be constituted under the Anti-money Laundering Act of 2010 and will coordinate with the National Accountability Bureau, Cabinet Division, Federal Board of Revenue, and Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan. It will collect data on all assets of officers and their families of grade 17 and above.

Earlier, the global lender had asked the country to set up the force until January 31.
