ISLAMABAD: In a robust effort to curb unauthorized vehicle modifications, the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has taken decisive action, suspending the registrations of more than 700 vehicles over the past three months.
This initiative, guided by directives from Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, aims to enhance road safety and adherence to standard vehicle regulations.
According to Dr. Abdullah Tabasum, the ICT spokesman, the department has also reinstated registrations for over 400 vehicles that promptly complied with the specified rules. The compliance involved the removal of black-tinted glasses and non-standard number plates. The crackdown is part of a collaborative endeavor led by Assistant Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers (AETOs) in coordination with the Traffic Police.
During rigorous inspections, 322 vehicles were identified for non-compliance with authorized modifications, leading to the suspension of their registrations. However, following the rectification of these unauthorized modifications, these vehicles have been deemed eligible for registration restoration.
The ICT spokesman emphasized the importance of citizens adhering to traffic regulations and refraining from using unauthorized vehicle accessories. The joint operations between the Excise and Taxation Department and the Islamabad Transport Authority underscore their commitment to the strict enforcement of these regulations. The spokesperson asserted that these joint operations will persist on a daily basis.
He further revealed that over 700 vehicles faced registration suspension due to the use of black-tinted glasses or fancy number plates. Encouraging citizens to comply with traffic rules, the spokesman highlighted that more than 400 vehicles have successfully regained their registrations after rectifying illegal modifications.
Authorities are actively urging citizens to cooperate, emphasizing the significance of following traffic rules and refraining from unauthorized vehicle modifications. The ongoing joint operations signify a determined effort to discourage and penalize such unauthorized vehicle alterations.
