ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday sought the record of the First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan in the federal capital.

Chief Justice, Amir Farooq took up the petition of PTI chief Imran Khan seeking record of the FIRs registered against him. Faisal Farid advocate appeared before the court on behalf of Imran Khan. At the outset of the hearing, Khan’s lawyer pleaded to the court to order the concerned to submit record of the FIRs registered against the PTI chief, fearing that some of the FIRs have been kept secret by the interior ministry.

FIR is not a sealed document: IHC

“You should know FIR is not a sealed document,” Chief Justice IHC said as he responded to the arguments of the complainant’s counsel. FIR is a public document after which the accused is summoned by the police for investigation, Justice Farooq maintained.

As Imran Khan’s counsel pressed further on the point, the IHC issued summons to the interior secretary, IG police Islamabad and the FIA and also sought record of the cases lodged against the PTI chief. The IHC also barred the police from arresting the PTI chairman in an ‘illegal’ way and adjourned the hearing of the case until March 27.
