ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday sought lawyers’ cross-arguments in a petition challenging PTI leader Imran Khan’s indictment in the Toshakhana criminal case.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the appeal filed by deposed Prime Minister Imran Khan against the trial court’s ruling on the case. The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) lawyer, Amjad Pervaiz, said at the start of the hearing that the law of limitations could not be applied in criminal cases. He said that within 120 days, any citizen could complain.
Imran Khan Accused of Hiding Assets
He said the petitioner had been prime minister and had been accused of hiding assets. According to the lawyer, the court decisions described by the petitioner’s counsel were of a different type.
He said the matter was filed through the District Election Commissioner and that he was representing ECP in both this and trial court. He said the case was filed in response to an ECP decision. He also rejected Imran Khan’s lawyer’s objection that the case was brought against the procedure.
He ended his remarks by urging that the court dismiss Imran Khan’s petition. Following this, the court sought cross-arguments from the PTI’s chief counsel and delayed the case until Friday.
