ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan till May 3 in a sedition case registered against him at the capital’s Ramna police station.

The court approved Imran’s bail against surety bonds worth Rs100,000. The IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the PTI chief’s plea filed earlier in the day for protective bail in the case. The registrar’s office had raised a few objections to the petition, one of which was associated to the lack of biometric verification. However, the PTI legal team later addressed and resolved those objections.

The Lahore High Court on April 14 granted the former premier protective bail in the case till April 26.

Earlier this month, Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a magistrate, filed a complaint against the PTI chief for “spreading hatred between the institutions and the public” and for “trying to cause unforgivable damage to the institutions and their top officers.

The first information report (FIR) registered at the Ramna Police Station cited examples from different recent speeches of Imran, alleging that the former PM used inappropriate language for various officers of statuary institutions and tried to defame them by leveling false allegations.
