ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday granted post-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati in the controversial tweets case.

The verdict was announced by IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq in which the court ordered Swati to submit surety bonds of Rs 200,000.

IHC resumed the hearing today with Babar Awan representing the accused. Awan told the court that Sindh and Balochistan high courts quashed the cases registered against his client.

The petition was filed by Swati’s counsel Babar Awan who made the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Wing and the federal government respondents in the case. The PTI leader sought post-arrest bail till the trial in the case is completed.

Rejection of Swati’s bail plea by special court

Earlier, a special court in the federal capital had rejected the bail plea filed by the PTI senator. Special Judge Central Azam Khan held that the PTI stalwart committed the same office twice. He said the PTI senator attempted to incite the public against army officers.
