ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday extended bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in nine terror cases. The high court told the former prime minister to approach the relevant trial courts for further legal proceedings.

Earlier, the IHC had reserved its verdict after completion of arguments. The former premier had been awarded bail in nine terror-related cases filed against him at different police stations.

The former prime minister appeared before the two-member bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.

Security had been heightened around the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ahead of Khan’s court appearance as the PTI chairman left Lahore for Islamabad to secure interim bail in nine cases against him.

A heavy contingent of Islamabad police had been deployed around the IHC while barbed wires and containers had also been placed to ensure law and order.

The police have strictly banned the entry of irrelevant persons into the IHC.

To ensure Imran’s safety, the Islamabad district administration had made high-security arrangements, while lawyers and journalists were allowed to enter courtroom no 1 through a special pass.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, while hearing Khan’s bail pleas in two cases against him on Wednesday related to threatening officials of the armed forces of Pakistan and the attempted murder of PML-N leader Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, observed that the law was equal and transparent for all.

The judge had noted that there was “no precedent of exemption from appearance during hearings in the bail petition.”
