ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered police not to unnecessarily harass citizens in the wake of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) possible long march in the federal capital.

IHC Chief justice Athar Minallah gave the instructions while hearing a petition filed by former advocate Niazullah Niazi against the conduct of Islamabad Police amidst warnings of a possible long march by PTI.

The court said that police’s move to acquire surety bonds amounted to harassment. It ordered the latter to come up with a satisfactory explanation for surety bonds during next hearing session.

Earlier on Sunday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah warned of an action “10 times stricter” as compared to the one adopted by the federal government during PTI’s previous long march to Islamabad in May, adding that no one could be allowed to bring a new government through mobs.

In an interview with a private news channel on Saturday, former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that his party’s upcoming long march towards Islamabad would take place in October.

He added that he could avert the long march if the incumbent government announces fresh elections.
