ISLAMABAD: As the holy month of Ramzan entered its final ashra, Iftar parties are gaining popularity with residents of the capital city seen busy organizing special events for near and dear ones.

Speaking to media, a citizen said indoor and outdoor Iftar parties are becoming popular, especially among youngsters. In the holy month of Ramadan, Iftar get-togethers have become a means to stay in touch with friends.

Another female citizen remarked Iftar get-togethers serve as a recreational activity and give people a break from their daily hectic routine.

“Our religion already instructs us to organise such get-togethers and now this has been engrained into our society”, said the participant of an Iftar dinner.

A teacher said that students, office colleagues and politicians also arrange lavish-style Iftar parties for their fellow beings.

A student remarked political parties now feel a sense of competitiveness to plan bigger and more extravagant events than their opponents because Iftar parties are highly popular.

A critic claimed, “The Iftar party has now become a social occasion, and anyone may throw one like a get-together,” adding that utilizing the occasion for political benefit contradicts Ramzan’s original intent.

While waiting outside a restaurant, a university student noted that Iftar with close friends is an enjoyable experience and an opportunity to share lighter moments.

One employee noted that Iftar dinners at restaurants are now increasing among the public and that it has become a norm of every business or institution to organise one during Ramadan.
