GENEVA: The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Saturday called on all parties to act to stop the “intolerable” human suffering of civilian population in the Gaza Strip.
“This is a disastrous failing that the international community must not tolerate,” said Mirjana Spoljaric President of ICRC, as Israel declared its war on Gaza had “entered a new phase” with its massive bombing of the Gaza Strip.
‘Catastrophic’ Suffering in Gaza
She added, “I am shocked by the unbearable level of human suffering and urge all the sides to the conflict to de-escalate now,”.
“It is unacceptable that civilians have no safe and secure place to go in Gaza amid the massive attacks, and with a military blockade in place there is also no acceptable humanitarian response now possible.”
According to the health ministry in Gaza over 8,000 had been killed in the Palestinian territory since October 7. The health ministry told AFP that more than 8,000 including children were killed in Gaza in Israeli brutal airstrikes.
UN chief Antonio Guterres on Saturday also criticized the “unprecedented escalation” by Israel of the bombardments in Gaza, and reiterated a call for an immediate humanitarian truce for the delivery of aid and help.

In a statement, Antonio Guterres said “I was encouraged by what seemed to be a growing consent for the need of at least a humanitarian pause in the Middle East,”. “Regrettably, instead I was astonished by an unparalleled escalation of attacks, undermining humanitarian purposes.”
The UN chief called for the situation to be reversed, during a trip to the Qatari capital city, Doha, where he held meeting with Qatar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman.
The UN Secretary General spoke as Israel announced Saturday that the war in Gaza had “entered a new stage,”. The health ministry in Gaza stated that Israeli airstrikes had killed about 7,703 people, mostly civilians including children and women.
