ISLAMABAD: The rapid adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is very crucial for better socio-economic development and for guiding Pakistan towards a digital economy. Therefore, the government of Pakistan should focus on this industry to enhance its annual exports to about $ 10 billion per annum.

This was remarked by Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI (Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry) during his visit to the 22nd ITCN Asia 2023, being arranged by the Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan Pvt. Limited at Pakistan-China Friendship Centre Islamabad.

Ahsan Zafar said that the country has a huge pool of young and dedicated talent and by providing them with proper training and education in the IT field, the country can rapidly increase IT export.

IT industry instrumental to enhance exports

He further said that Pakistan’s neighbors are collecting billions of dollars from IT exports, but we are still far behind as country’s exports of ICT services, including computer, telecommunication and information services, hardly reached $2.6 billion in FY 2022.

He stressed that the government should introduce conducive policies for the IT industry to help in bringing a new revolution in to this high potential sector.

The 3-days long action-packed has provided an ideal platform to the IT industry players to showcase the solutions for all important matters of the economy related to the government, cloud, data center, cyber security, ERP, education, health & pharma, artificial intelligence, robotics, ecommerce, banking and finance.

The event also provided a decent opportunity for the entire tech ecosystem of the country, along with the leaders from the public and private sectors, to come under one roof and witness the biggest tech festival of the country.
