ISLAMABAD: South Africa beat Bangladesh by 149 runs in the ICC contest played at Mumbai on Tuesday. While chasing a huge target of 383 runs, Bangladesh’s batting line came under pressure and started collapsing from the start, thanks to the brilliant inning of Quinton de Kock (174 runs), Markram (60), and Klaasen (90), who all set the stage for the Proteas win while filing a huge target against Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi batters came under pressure from the start and lost their first wicket in the seventh over when Jansen removed Tanzid on 12. On the next ball, Jansen removed Litton Das on duck. In the next over, when the score was 31, Bangladesh lost their skipper Shakib-Al Hasan on just 1 run.
Three quick wickets while adding just 1 run put Bangladesh under immense pressure. Nest was Mushfiqur Rahim, who added just runs to the total. At the stage, Bangladesh were 42 for 4 in the 12th over. Opener Litton Das showed some resistance but couldn’t survive for long and was removed by Rabada on 22 when the total reached 58 in 15 overs.
In the first 15 overs, Bangladesh’s top and middle order almost collapsed, probably due to the pressure of the huge target. After Litton Das, number seven, Batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz joined Mahmudullah and stayed on the crease for a few overs. However, in over number 22nd, Maharaj removed him on 11. At the stage, Bangladesh were 81 for the loss of 6, and the chase was almost out of their reach.
Meanwhile, Mahmudullah and Nasum Ahmad added some runs to the scoreboard; however, in the 29th over, Coetzee dismissed Nasum on 19. Both the batters added 41 runs in partnership for the side. At the stage, Bangladesh were 122 for 7, still far away from the target, with over 12 runs per over. Mahmudullah showed some resistance in the middle; however, wickets were falling continuously from the other hand. He also completed his half-century and continued to smash South African bowlers to bring down the gap of runs for his team.
In the 37th over, Rabada got out Hasan Mahmud on 15. Hasan was replaced by number 10 batter Mustafizur Rehman. Mustafiz managed to spend time with Mahmudullah and irritated African bowlers for not giving them a quick wicket. Both took the side to reach 200 runs in the 42nd over.
Meanwhile, Mahmudullah completed his brilliant hundred on just 104 balls. Despite losing the game, Mahmudullah 100 got some relief to the side for the next games. Finally, his brilliant innings ended when Coetzee got him out on 111 while facing 111 balls. His inning included 4 sixes and 11 boundaries. He, along with Mustafizur Rehman, contributed 67 runs partnership for the team.
After a few overs later, Bangladesh were all out on 233 in 46.4 overs. South Africa won the match by 149 runs.
From South Africa, Coetzee was the most successful bowler while taking 3 wickets. Jansen. Walliams and Rabada grabbed 2 wickets each, while Maharaj got one wicket.
South Africa Batting Against Bangladesh
Earlier after winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first. Both openers of South Africa took a quick start; however, they lost the first wicket in the 7th over at 33 when Reeza Hendricks was dismissed by Shoriful Islam on 12. The Proteas lost their second wicket in the next over as Rassie van der Dussen also got out on just 1 run. After two quick dismissals de Kock was joined by Markram, and both batters accelerated the inning ahead.
Both completed their half-centuries and contributed 131 runs partnership for the team. In the 31st over, when the score reached 167, Shakib-Al-Hasan dismissed Markram on 60. On the other hand, de Kock continued his splendid inning. Markram was replaced by the informed Klaasen. Both batters accelerated the innings further. Quinton de Kock also completed his brilliant hundred. Klaasen also added crucial quick runs and completed his half-century on 34 balls, including 4 sixes and a boundary. Both the batters drove the side passed 300 runs in 44 overs.
Meanwhile, De Kock didn’t stop there, completed 150 runs in style. In the 46th over, Bangladesh finally took a sigh of relief to remove de Kock on 174. His splendid inning included 7 sixes and 15 boundaries. This was the top score of de Kock in the World Cup as well as in the ODI. In the last 5 over, Klaasen showed his class while repeating his previous inning firework. He mashed a brilliant inning of 90 runs in 49 balls. His inning included 8 sixes and 2 boundaries. Miller also added a quick inning of 34 runs on 15 balls.
In 50 overs, South Africa scored 382 for the loss of 5 wickets. This was the third-highest score of the current World Cup, whereas all the three highest score belongs to South Africa.
From Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud grabbed two wickets, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shoriful Islam got one wicket each.
