BENGALURU: In a high-scoring showdown, India set an imposing target of 411 runs for the Netherlands in the final group match of the ICC World Cup held in Bengaluru on Sunday. Opting to bat first, India’s top-order batters delivered a commanding performance, led by a splendid century from Shreyas Iyer.
Openers Rohit Sharma (61) and Shubman Gill (51) laid the groundwork with a robust 100-run partnership, setting the stage for a formidable total. Virat Kohli added to the scoreboard with a valuable 51 runs, contributing to India’s steady progress.
However, it was the dynamic partnership between Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul that stole the spotlight. Iyer’s exceptional knock of 128, coupled with Rahul’s brilliant century (102), propelled India beyond the 400-run mark. Their commanding 208-run partnership showcased the batting prowess of the Indian team.
India concluded their innings at an imposing 410/4 in the allotted 50 overs, setting a challenging target for the Netherlands. The Dutch bowlers faced a formidable Indian lineup, with Bas de Leede securing two wickets, while Roelof van der Merwe and Paul van Meekeren claimed one wicket each.
